Abstract

Bekasi city, located in West Java, is one of the most populated cities in Indonesia. Bekasi City that has 2.2 million inhabitants in 2020. The number of residents in the city of Bekasi requires the city of Bekasi to have complete facilities in all aspects of life. One of them is an educational facility. Educational facilities in Bekasi city are adequate such as the number of schools and universities. Unfortunately, the number of libraries in the city is quite limited. This study proposes to design a library with a tropical concept that matches the climate in Indonesia that will be applied to the exterior, interior, and landscape of the building. With this concept, it is expected that people are interested in coming to the library and increasing their literacy skills in Bekasi City. The method used is a descriptive analysis that consists of two stages. The first is a data exploration, and the second is a discussion followed by data analysis. Data analyses include the site, building, structure, and utilities analysis. The result is a tropical architectural design that creates thermal comfort in the interior of the building by adding some features, such as open space and voids made of heat-absorbing material, a sun’s shading device, and greenery around the site.
