SIDEWALK USE AS COMMERCIAL SPACE IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF PLACE MAKING THEORY
A case study of the sidewalk in front of the Ciptomangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta
Keywords:
Revitalization, City Infrastructure, Public SpaceAbstract
The revitalization of sidewalks in Jakarta is based on the idea that sidewalks as city infrastructure have the main function as roads for pedestrians. The facts show that the sidewalk in front of Ciptomangunkusumo Hospital, Jalan Diponegoro, Jakarta, shows that there is use for other activities on the sidewalk. The research results show that activities that occur on sidewalks occur as a result of opportunities and a mutualistic symbiotic process between sidewalk users and existing environmental activities. This condition can be explained by the place making theory that public spaces will experience increased activity if there is a mechanism that forms a supply and demand process.
