Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a communicable disease caused by dengue virus (DENV) and transmitted through the bite of Aedes sp. mosquitoes. Bagorejo Village, located in Gumukmas Subdistrict, Jember Regency, has been recorded to experience an extraordinary dengue fever outbreak due to environmental conditions that support the breeding of the mosquito vector. The main issue faced is the community’s lack of understanding regarding DHF prevention and control efforts. This activity was carried out using an educational approach through the delivery of materials and interactive discussions, followed by an evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure the improvement in public knowledge. The results showed an increase in community understanding, from 63% before the educational session to 89% after the activity. This improvement reflects the effectiveness of the educational activity in raising public awareness about the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene and eliminating mosquito breeding sites to prevent DHF transmission. Therefore, this educational initiative can be concluded to have successfully enhanced public knowledge and holds potential to encourage active community participation in sustainable dengue fever prevention efforts.
