The role of fathers during one’s childhood significantly influences young adult men’s confidence in parenting, particularly among first-time fathers of toddlers. Parenting self-efficacy, defined as the belief in one’s ability to fulfill parenting responsibilities, may be shaped by early experiences of paternal involvement. This study investigates the influence of father involvement on parenting self-efficacy among young adult men in Indonesia with their first child aged under five. Using a quantitative, correlational design with linear regression analysis, data were collected from 353 men aged 19–40 years through convenience sampling. Results show a correlation between childhood father involvement and parenting self-efficacy. Among the measured dimensions, direct engagement and paternal responsibility were correlated with parenting self-efficacy. These findings highlight the importance of intergenerational parenting experiences and suggest that improving father involvement can enhance parenting confidence in the next generation. The study offers valuable insights for developing father-focused parenting programs in Indonesia aimed at strengthening caregiving skills from an early stage of fatherhood.
