Adverse Childhood Experience among College Students and Its Relationship with Anxiety and Depression

Kecemasan dan depresi rentan dialami oleh remaja. Adverse childhood experiences (ACE) ditemukan berpotensi menimbulkan kecemasan dan depresi. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional digunakan dalam penelitian ini guna mengetahui hubungan antara sepuluh kategori ACE dengan kecemasan dan depresi. Terdapat 62 mahasiswa yang bersedia terlibat dan mengisi kuesioner The Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), dan Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire Sebagian besar dari partisipan (87,1%) melaporkan mengalami sedikitnya satu ACE, dengan kategori pengalaman yang paling banyak dialami oleh partisipan adalah kekerasan emosional, pengabaian emosional, dan kekerasan fisik. Sebanyak 27,4% melaporkan mengalami empat atau lebih kategori ACE. Pengalaman kekerasan emosional berkorelasi positif dan signifikan terhadap kecemasan dan depresi. Lebih lanjut, kekerasan seksual berhubungan dengan depresi sedangkan pengalaman perpisahan orang tua berhubungan dengan kecemasan. Temuan dari penelitian ini memperkuat penjelasan bahwa adverse childhood experience berkaitan erat dengan kesehatan mental pada masa dewasa. Melakukan deteksi dini terhadap pengalaman tidak menguntungkan pada masa kecil dapat berguna untuk mengidentifikasi mahasiswa yang berisiko mengalami penurunan pada kondisi kesehatan mentalnya.
